Thomas Boehm

Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics, Freigburg (Germany)

Thomas Boehm is a Director and Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics. Doctor Boehm took is MD degree and the German Habilitation in biological chemistry at the University of Frankfurt Medical School. Meanwhile, he has developed research in a Molecular Biology Laboratory in Cambridge and lectured as full Professor on Experimental Therapy at the German Cancer Research Centre and Molecular Medicine at the University of Freiburg Medical School.

Currently, Doctor Boehm leads a group at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics that aims to explain human disease and to therapeutically target it by understanding the genetic basis of the immune system's function. His group's interests go as far as from dissecting the adaptive immune systems’ quality control mechanisms for self-reactive receptors to the genetics behind the development of the organs responsible for this control. Ultimately, their goal is to be able to reconstruct ancient thymopoietic tissue forms and to build artificial equivalents for therapeutic use.
